Today, Liberia-born, Tennessee-based Afro-Appalachian Folk artist Mon Rovîa unveils his poignant new single, “crooked the road.,” and announces his signing to Nettwerk Music Group.

“crooked the road.” explores the complex relationship between pain and identity, tracing the emotional journey of someone so entwined with their suffering that it becomes their very essence. Despite this deep entanglement, the song is tinged with a subtle undercurrent of hope.

“This is a song for those who have fallen too in love with their pain. I was there a couple of years back before I became Mon Rovîa. I was in love with my suffering, it became who I knew myself as,” explains Mon Rovîa.

He continues, “Because of this I couldn’t see the hands that had been extended to lift me out. Ones that were longing to see me become who I was meant to be. For the listener I hope they find freedom, I hope they find strength to pull away from what brings down. The song is for all of us who thought in our darkest moments, ‘this is who I am’.”

Recently named to Spotify’s 2024 Juniper Artists to Watch, Mon Rovîa has sold out every headline show to date and made his festival debut at Bonnaroo earlier this summer. He is confirmed for Austin City Limits this fall, recently wrapped a June tour with Gregory Alan Isakov, and has previously supported Josiah and the Bonnevilles. His international presence is also expanding, with two recent sold-out performances in London.

With over half a billion TikTok views for his music and sound uses from the likes of Bella Hadid, Lexi Hidalgo, and Carson Roney, Mon Rovîa is just getting started. This fall, he embarks on an extensive North American headline tour.
