Hayden Calnin shares new EP “Middle Night”; Melbourne EP launch show + 2026 European & UK headline dates on sale now

November 21, 2025 BY Emma Orland

Australian singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Hayden Calnin today shares his new EP Middle Night (out now via Nettwerk) – a seven-track collection created in his coastal studio and shaped during the quiet hours when the world has fallen away, and – as Hayden describes – “strange happenings and deeper thoughts often happen”. Alongside the release is new single “Take” – the EP’s final track and closing moment. You can listen to Middle Night HERE.

On Middle Night, Hayden opens up like never before – and over a patchwork of indie, folk, and alternative soundscapes he delivers the most candid body of work of his career. The resulting record is a reflection on movement – within ourselves, within the world, and within the vastness beyond. It explores how we expand, what we choose to believe, and the ways we either shrink from or step into who we really are. It’s also a record about surrender – to uncertainty, to wonder, to curiosity, to doubt, and to love.

Hayden shares, “These songs explore what it means to accept who you are, to question the way things are, and to recognise the deeper connection between everything. There’s an honesty in stepping forward without fear, in embracing change, in understanding that every action sends ripples through something greater than ourselves. This collection of songs takes you on a tour of growth as an individual, lessons learned along the way, and being okay in your own body and mind. We are all in this together.

“Musically, the EP balances intimacy and power; some moments are stripped back to their rawest form, while others swell with bold, urgent energy. At its core, ‘Middle Night’ is about learning, evolving, and never losing sight of what really matters.”

A key part of this project was Hayden allowing himself to finally write openly about the side of him he’s usually kept at arm’s length. For years, Hayden has been drawn to the paranormal and the stranger edges of experience – a quiet fascination he’s rarely put into words until now. Across Middle Night, he began folding that long-held curiosity into his songwriting. It’s woven through the EP in glimpses: the sense of things existing just beyond what we see; the possibility that connection runs wider than we realise; the openness to experiences that don’t always fit neatly into language.

The record’s closing track, “Take”, gathers these threads and brings the whole record into focus – a moment of acceptance after everything that’s led up to it. Hayden says, ‘Take’ is about surrendering to motion – how the world shifts, adapts, and evolves, and how we grow with it. Some moments are effortless, others test you, break you, but every experience teaches something worth carrying forward if you find your ground. Certain life moments have taught me that we are all part of one vast, connected network and this song is about accepting that flow and moving with it.”
