Hayden Calnin Announces New EP “Middle Night” Out November 21; Shares New Single “Won’t Shy”

July 18, 2025 BY Emma Orland

Australian singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Hayden Calnin has announced his forthcoming EP, Middle Night, due out November 21 via Nettwerk. Accompanying the announcement is the release of revealing new single “Won’t Shy”.

Crafted mostly in the late hours of his home studio – when Hayden says, “strange happenings and deeper thoughts often happen” – Middle Night is Hayden’s most personal and thematically expansive work to date. It’s a body of songs shaped by quiet questions, deep connections, and a lifelong pull toward the unknown.

Middle Night is a reflection on movement: within ourselves, within the world, and within the vastness beyond. It explores how we expand, what we choose to believe, and the ways we either shrink from or step into who we really are. It’s also a record about surrender – to uncertainty, to wonder, and to love.

Hayden shares, “These songs explore what it means to accept who you are, to question the way things are, and to recognise the deeper connection between everything. There’s an honesty in stepping forward without fear, in embracing change, in understanding that every action sends ripples through something greater than ourselves. This collection of songs takes you on a tour of growth as an individual, lessons learned along the way, and being okay in your own body and mind. We are all in this together.

“Musically, the EP balances intimacy and power; some moments are stripped back to their rawest form, while others swell with bold, urgent energy. At its core, ‘Middle Night’ is about learning, evolving, and never losing sight of what really matters.”

Across the EP, Hayden blends a patchwork of lush indie-folk textures with ambient electronics and alternative soundscapes, threading his rich vocals through spacious arrangements that range from sparse and cinematic to bold and immediate.

Following recent singles Some Things Distinct & Some Things Whole” and “Alright Now”, today’s new single “Won’t Shy” sees Hayden coming to a crucial realisation with fresh resolve, as he sings “the curious won’t shy, love is what survives and here it shines.”

“It’s about embracing your own perspective, even when it feels worlds apart from others around you,” he shares. It’s a reminder to not be too hard on yourself – because in the end, and risking cliche, love always rises above everything else. Love wins every time.

“My life has been full of strange happenings, some would label as paranormal in nature, I’m not sure what it all is, but it’s about finding some comfort in the fact that there are others that experience the stranger side of life too.”
