BESTFRIEND Shares New EP ‘Bestfriend Has An Identity Crisis’

Canadian alt-pop duo Bestfriend (composed of Stacy Suyeon & Kaelan Geoffrey) have shared their new EP, BESTFRIEND HAS AN IDENTITY CRISIS, via Nettwerk. Featuring six tracks of introspective, shimmering indie pop, the EP captures the chaos of young adulthood, exploring themes of uncertainty, self-discovery, and emotional resilience. Leading the release is the new warm, celestial single “UNTIL SUNDAY,” accompanied by an animated music video.

Working alongside producer Aidan Hogg (Jaguar Jonze, G-Flip, Sofia Isella), BESTFRIEND HAS AN IDENTITY CRISIS is a milestone for the duo, marking the first project they’ve collaborated on in person, with Stacy based in Vancouver and Kaelan based in Toronto. The duo shares, “This is the first EP we’ve collaborated on in person, and it’s really felt like growing up in real time. We embraced all of the messiness, beauty, confusion, heartache, and headache that comes with figuring out who you are and where you’re going. We still haven’t figured it out yet — might not ever, honestly — but at least we figured out this EP, and that feels like a massive win in and of itself.”

New track “UNTIL SUNDAY” is a poignant meditation on grief, regret, and the will to keep moving forward. The band explains, “One of the titles we tossed around for this one was ‘The Grief’ because that’s really, wholly what it’s about. It’s about the accumulated rust and wear we’ve picked up over the years but never really had the time or attention to do anything about. It’s about the depths of those feelings and the mirrors they can hold up to you in the latest and quietest hours of your nights.”

The EP also features previously released singles, each offering a unique perspective on the complexities of human connection and self-awareness. “ALL WE HAD” explores the heartbreak of losing yourself in a failing relationship and the journey of rediscovering your own identity. “YOU LOOK JUST LIKE ME” is an honest reflection on shared struggles and the traits we recognize in ourselves and others. “WHY DO WE DO THIS?” unfolds as a cathartic mantra, questioning the repetitive nature of life and the motivations that keep us moving forward. Standout single “HEADSTART” is an electrifying anthem about the urgency and excitement of infatuation, blending vocal chants with infectious rhythms to create an undeniable headbanger.
