HIMALAYAS RELEASES NEW SINGLE “SURRENDER”

March 17, 2025 BY Bailey Vigliaturo

HIMALAYAS have released their new single ‘Surrender’, the latest song to be taken from their forthcoming album BAD STAR out April 25th via Nettwerk. The album is available to pre-order now here.

‘Surrender’ is a foreboding cavernous rock track which examines uncritical loyalty to individuals and organizations, and the willingness to blindly accept anything they say. It also speaks to the inability to see why others may think differently, leading to further division instead of cooperation to achieve a common goal.

Regarding the single guitarist and songwriter Mike Griffiths says, “‘Surrender’ was one of the earliest tracks written for BAD STAR. We wanted to create something heavy and in your face while keeping it interesting and allowing the music to keep moving forward.

It started off with a handful of riffs that felt like they worked together and once we had added drums to the demo the song took on a new energy which influenced the ebb and flow of the guitar parts. The lyrics and vocal parts were written to complement the aggression of the music and discuss the stubbornness of overly partisan ways of thinking.”

‘Surrender’ follows the release of a string of successful singles taken from BAD STAR including  ‘What If…?’‘Nothing Higher’, ‘Hung Up’ and ‘Cave Paintings’. The latter was selected in Radio 1’s 2024 Big Hitters while the band were recently interviewed on the station’s Rock Show last month for the release of ‘Afterlife’.

BAD STAR finds HIMALAYAS – Joe Williams (vocals/guitar), Mike Griffiths (guitar/vocals), Louis Heaps (bass) and James Goulbourn (drums) – expanding far beyond the indie-rock of their first works From Hell To Here in 2023, with the new album now seeing the band taking in influence from Queens Of The Stone Age, Radiohead, Royal Blood, and Foo Fighters.

Working with producer Pete Hutchings (Royal Blood, Nothing But Thieves, Skindred) the result on BAD STAR is 10 tracks that finds the band ooze with confidence, with a sharp skill in inventive but catchy riffs, slinking rhythms, and an ever-present sense of vastness of both sound and vision.

The Cardiff rock band are currently in America performing a number of showcases at SXSW and their final show is at the British Music Embassy tomorrow (March 15th). They are performing further festivals this year, including Y Not Festival and In It Together Festival 2025.
