Rising London trio NIGHT TAPES share hypnotic single ‘Television’
February 18, 2025 BY Bailey Vigliaturo
London trio Night Tapes are a band on a perpetually upwards trajectory; they kick off 2025 going from strength to strength having just wrapped a US tour with French nu-disco outfit L’impératice, won the Music Moves Europe Award, and today they share their brand new single ‘Television’ out on Nettwerk.
‘Television’ is a floating, slinky cut that sees Night Tapes pulling from the vintage electronica of Boards of Canada or Tycho and marrying it to a trademark weightless falsetto vocal and an irresistible, cinematic dream-pop hook. The lyrics are a hypnotic meditation on modern existence, digital detachment, and the search for something deeper.
The track unfolds like a lucid dream, pulsing with entrancing rhythms and introspective lyricism. As they sing, “You can’t go back, you know too much now,” Night Tapes capture the bittersweet truth of our hyper-connected world, urging us forward into something more real.
Iiris Vesik from the band explains the inspiration for this latest track. “I was sitting in the park , looking into a portal in my hands and worrying about the world. When I looked up I could see that there were lots of people in the park who, like me, had come to enjoy the park. Everywhere I looked – they were in the portals in their hands. Some were diving head first, some kept good posture & I thought to myself that at least singing with good technique requires good posture so hopefully when I’m 80, my body would still be somewhat straight up when I’m going somewhere. I also thought that this is not how parks are meant to work. So I wrote down the first sentence of this song into the useful portal in my hands to use it later.”
