Amistat’s Latest Masterpiece: ‘Stranger’ Explores Love & Loss
February 14, 2025 BY Bailey Vigliaturo
Today, the twin brother duo Amistat is excited to share their personal and poignant new single, “stranger,” along with a lovely visual. Written backstage at a gig in Rome, “stranger” features sparse instrumentation complemented by a chantable chorus anchored by an affirmation, “I’m not a stranger.” The duo sat down and wrote this track with the intention of exploring the aftermath of love that has been lost. Diving into the bittersweet realization that even when two people drift apart, they can never truly return to being strangers after all they’ve shared.
Set against Amistat’s signature blend of heartfelt lyrics and soul-stirring melodies, “stranger” captures the emotional complexity of letting go while holding on to the indelible marks left by love. It’s raw, reflective tone resonates deeply, making it a powerful addition to the band’s growing catalog of deeply personal and universal storytelling.
Josef and Jan share, “It’s a strange concept when you know somebody for such a long time—whether as good friends, partners, or even family—and something happens and you essentially become strangers,” Jan goes on. “The song is a reminder that things don’t have to be like that. Even though you may be split up, we don’t have to act like we don’t know each other anymore or like the past never happened.”
“stranger” is available on all digital streaming platforms here.
ABOUT AMISTAT:
Born in Germany with roots in the Czech Republic and Australia, twin brothers Amistat—Josef and Jan Prasil—share an unspoken and unexplainable bond best sung aloud. The power of this bond courses through their familial harmonies and eloquent songcraft accented by individual idiosyncrasies. Songs unfold like stories with two narrators, allowing both voices space to ring out.
The pair developed a signature style over the course of a series of independent EPs highlighted by singles such as “Ready Now,” which generated over 12.3 million Spotify streams and counting. Along the way, they toured across Australia, the UK, and Europe, gracing the bills of the Woodford Folk Festival, National Folk Festival, Fairbridge, and Nannup. The duo shared their EP’s colour in life and a moment in the sun last year and have generated millions of streams along with performing to packed crowds in multiple continents.
Amistat remains on the heels of incredible momentum after going viral with their cover of Lord Huron’s “The Night We Met.” They’ve gathered over 14M views and 687K likes on Instagram and 3.5M views and 389.4K likes on TikTok, and this is just the beginning for them.
