Renowned Pianist Evgeny Grinko Announces New Album ‘Winter Moonlight’ + Shares “Murmuration”

Today, renowned composer and multi-instrumentalist Evgeny Grinko is proud to announce his next full-length album, Winter Moonlight, due out February 7th via Nettwerk. After teasing listeners with new compositions like “Melting” and “Zapad Slunce,” today, he continues to enchant listeners with his his latest single, “Murmuration.”.

Reflecting on the creation, Grinko shared, “This composition appeared by chance during the recording of Winter Moonlight. It just slipped out from under my fingers during the warm-up before recording. I refer to all of my compositions as small miracles, but this composition is probably the closest I have gotten to a true ‘miracle’ of inspiration.”

Like the flocks of starlings that give the track its name, ”Murmuration” weaves a mesmerizing, dreamlike narrative. Its intricate melodies transport listeners across time and space, capturing the elusive beauty of movement and connection. Grinko’s vision extends beyond sound, as reflected in the single’s accompanying music video. Filmed in a striking underground basilica in Istanbul, the video mirrors the mythical and timeless feeling of the music. Grinko teased, “The images created by this music allow me to travel to parallel realities as well as horizontally in time. For the video, I wanted to find a location where I could convey this mythical feeling. I found it in this underground location. Can anybody recognize it? Hint: it is in Istanbul!”

His newest project, Winter Moonlight, represents a gorgeous full-circle for the Russian pianist and composer. Across these ten songs, Grinko pushes his melodic sensibilities to the absolute zenith with a patient elegance and little accentuation beyond the glassy figures he’s crafted here. Recalling the emotional potency of Max Richter’s piano-based reveries as well as the filmic drama of Philip Glass’ score work, Winter Moonlight is the latest achievement in what’s already been an incredible career for Grinko.

To celebrate the release of Winter Moonlight, Evgeny Grinko will embark on an extensive European and UK tour in March and April 2025. Two dates have already been announced, with many more to be announced in the coming weeks:

March 3, 2025: Kammermusiksaal, Berlin

March 5, 2025: Hackney Church, London
