With their latest single, „Opposite Opinions“, Rikas deliver a thought-provoking yet catchy song, inviting fans on a journey into the band’s mindset. This release serves as a preview of their upcoming album, Soundtrack For A Movie That Has Not Been Written Yet, set to release on February 7, 2025. The album is poised to be the band’s most cohesive and reflective work to date.
Opposite Opinions emerged from an experimental session without a set direction, with lyrics that seemed to take shape on their own. The metaphorical line “We got opposite opinions on the front line, and I wish I could be honest in the meantime” leaves ample room for interpretation, reflecting the often absurd nature of modern conflicts—ranging from personal tensions to global disputes. “We usually blame others. But if we gain some distance with an open heart and clear vision, we should and could also be more honest with ourselves and admit our own mistakes,” explains the band.
Soundtrack For A Movie That Has Not Been Written Yet consists of 11 short yet impactful tracks created over the past few years. The album captures a sense of movement and dynamism, an idea that the band found inspiring during long drives on their tour bus. “We had this feeling of being on the road, the ‘go, go, go’ vibe that never quite lets you settle, yet also brings a sense of connection,” shares guitarist and keyboardist Sascha Scherer. According to Scherer, this album is Rikas’ first deliberately unified project. With four multi-instrumentalists and songwriters, the band has found it easy to create diverse songs, but this time, they aimed to craft a consistent sound without sacrificing variety. The songs grew from old ideas and spontaneous inspirations collected over the year, resulting in a soundscape that feels like being “wrapped in cotton.”
With Opposite Opinions and Soundtrack For A Movie That Has Not Been Written Yet, Rikas showcase their ability to blend musical diversity with deep reflections. The album promises an immersive journey, inviting listeners to lose themselves in the soundtrack of a film that may never be made—but whose essence is gently embraced by the music.
About Rikas
Rikas have a knack for turning an unplanned evening or a plotless film into something unforgettable. Ferdinand plays drums, Sam is on bass, Chris plays guitar, and Sascha handles guitar and keyboards. Each member brings a unique “superpower,” yet none stand alone in the spotlight. They craft their songs together, with all members singing, often with anthemic backing vocals. Starting from their hometown of Stuttgart, they have steadily built a fanbase across Europe. Singles like Overthinking and I Always Think of You (When I Listen to This Song) have garnered millions of streams, establishing Rikas as a live sensation in Germany with word-of-mouth buzz spreading beyond borders. With over 300 performances, including festivals like Fusion Festival and MS Dockville in Hamburg, and as support for artists like Milky Chance, Alt-J, and Alice Phoebe Lou across Europe, they quickly built a reputation. After releasing their debut album Showtime in late 2019 and facing a postponed tour, Rikas hit a creative block. They overcame this phase with the single Overthinking at the end of 2020 and the follow-up EP Short Stories. Sessions in Amsterdam with Benny Sings and a visit to Jonathan Rado (Whitney, Father John Misty, Weyes Blood) in LA helped Rikas find the sound for their second album, which they produced with Daniel Schaub at Berlin’s Hansa Studios.
