LINYING BREAKS FREE OF INHIBITIONS ON NEW SINGLE/VIDEO “DONOVAN”

October 11, 2024 BY Bailey Vigliaturo

Linying today shared her dynamic new single Donovan alongside a Michelle Mei-directed video. Her first release since 2023’s acclaimed House Mouse EP (Nettwerk), the technicolor song feels like the first page of a liberated and exciting new chapter for the rising Los Angeles-via-Singapore artist. Bolstered by driving percussion, roaring guitar riffs, and a vibrant swell of trumpets, the off-kilter dance track is an immediate earworm. Its video finds Linying dancing expressively and intuitively in front of two ominous, veiled figures. “The person I allow myself to be is finally coaxed to the surface in this fertile and lonely world. These once seemingly threatening entities were really my guardians all along, keepers of my peace and steadfast, rock-solid admirers of my most uninhibited self,” she says. Mei adds: “I wanted to chart her emotional journey in the face of the unknown, moving from a position of suspicion and intrigue to one of release, trust and play.”

“Donovan” – available to stream at all DSPs – HERE. Linying will perform next at the Opening Ceremony of Singapore’s F1 Grand Prix on September 13th, followed by a performance at AXEAN festival in Bali on September 28th.

House Mouse and its singles—“Happiness,” “Porcupine,” and “Take Me to Your House”—earned praise and support from NYLON, LA Weekly, FLOOD (feature), Brooklyn Vegan, Under the Radar, Atwood Magazine (feature), MXDWN, Northern Transmissions, and more. Linying’s debut album There Could Be Wreckage Here—a 2022 release made with musicians like former Death Cab for Cutie guitarist Chris Walla—also earned fantastic press from NPR Music, NME, Bitch Media, and others.

Stay tuned for more Linying news coming soon.
