Alternative Duo FOREIGN AIR Return With New Single “Awkward Bones”

September 16, 2024 BY Bailey Vigliaturo

Tomorrow, the enigmatic duo Foreign Air will share their first new single, “Awkward Bones,” since their 2022 album Hello Sunshine. Known for their dark hooks, the track is perfectly timed for the start of the spooky season, combining stripped-back strings and electronic 80s-inspired beats with an anthemic alt-rock chorus.

Foreign Air explains, “‘Awkward Bones’ is a poignant exploration of vulnerability, connection, and self-discovery. With the song we wanted to capture the essence of being a wallflower—someone quietly observing life from the sidelines, yet yearning for deeper interaction. Lyrically it delves into the tension between wanting to connect and feeling held back by one’s own insecurities. Wrapped in a hazy atmosphere of ‘cigarette perfume’ and the weight of unspoken words, this track is a tender ode to those awkward moments that define us and the beauty that can bloom from them.”

Jesse adds, “We worked with a string quartet for the first time last year when filming some new renditions of songs from our last album. It was a blast and quite inspirational for Jacob and I. We knew pretty quickly that we wanted to try introducing strings into our new material. This is a heartfelt 80’s track about hope for the future and human interaction. The strings are grandiose which felt like an interesting juxtaposition to the lyrics and delivery.”

Foreign Air is comprised of Jesse Clasen and Jacob Michael. The duo broke onto the scene with their glitchy, spectral single “Free Animal,” which became an immediate hit and sync darling with Nike, Samsung, Vodafone, Microsoft,  Showtime, ABC, and Vice all using the track. In October 2020, they released their debut album, Good Morning Stranger, followed by their 2022 sophomore album, Hello Sunshine, which featured K.Flay as a co-writer on the track “Blue Days.” Known for their dark, grooving alt-electronic anthems, Foreign Air has been streamed more than 200 million times on Spotify and Apple, praised by tastemakers like Billboard, Alt Press, and Grammy.com, and they have toured with notable acts like Phantogram, Bishop Briggs, Bleachers, Anna Shoemaker and more. They are currently working on new music.
