Indie-Folk Singer-Songwriter Riley Pearce Returns With New Single “How Will I Know?”; Announces Australian Tour
October 13, 2023 BY Emma Orland
Indie singer-songwriter Riley Pearce dives into his next chapter of music with coming-of-age reflection “How Will I Know?”. There’s an ease to the music Riley Pearce makes, a beauty and a calmness that drenches every lyric and melody, that draws you in and calls you to connect. From the moment he asks, “How will I know if I’m doing it right?” it’s easy to feel as if we are all figuring out this journey of growing up, together. You can listen to the track HERE, and watch the video HERE.
To celebrate the release of his new single, Riley will take to stages around Australia this November. You can find the tour dates below.
“How Will I Know” is the first new solo release for the year from Riley, following his collaboration with Maddy May called “Habit” and his cover of Adrian Lux’s “Teenage Crime”. The trio of singles arrive following a huge 2022, which included the release of Riley’s debut album The Water & The Rough, an album that unfolded over two years and three cities, and showcased the combination of warm, wafting melodies and quietly introspective lyricism that Riley’s music possesses.

On his new track, Riley says, “Even as an adult, I always feel like I’m in this constant state of figuring things out. Big decisions and big changes in life have always been something I struggle with, and we never truly know what lies ahead. As much as I struggle with it, there’s also an element of excitement in the unknown and this song and the production tries to capture that feeling. When you’re a kid you think your parents have their shit together, but that illusion fades away as you grow up and realise, they were probably just as clueless as you were.”

ABOUT RILEY PEARCE:
There’s an ease to the music Riley makes. That’s testament to how effortlessly he became a songwriter. Watching his dad in cover bands inspired him to pick up the guitar. By 17, he was busking at local farmer’s markets—playing Dire Straits and Jack Johnson covers but sneaking in a few original folky compositions about what he saw around him or the relationships he had formed.
Since releasing his first single in 2016, Riley has gone on to release 59 songs, including six EPs and his debut album, 2022’s The Water & The Rough – amassing more than 75 million streams globally along the way. He was awarded WAM Song of the Year in 2017 and 2019, and his single “Bottle It Up” was awarded an Honourable Mention in the Folk/Singer-Songwriter category in the 2021 International Songwriting Competition (ISC). Riley’s music has also been featured on the soundtracks for international TV shows including Netflix’s ‘Love Victor’ and US TV shows ‘Shameless’ and ‘Shadowhunters’.
Riley’s music has garnered support and received acclaim from press and tastemakers around the globe including triple j, Double J, Herald Sun, Music Feeds, Rolling Stone, Atwood Magazine, AU Review, Milky, Music Pixel, Happy Mag, Around The Sound, Alexrainbird Music, Neon Music, and more.
