Rising Singer-Songwriter Caleb Hearn Announces ‘Birthdays & Funerals’ EP Out 11/17

Nashville-via-North Carolina singer-songwriter Caleb Hearn is set to dazzle the music world once again with his latest single “Birthdays & Funerals,” a sonorous journey through love’s landscapes. The single is a preview into his forthcoming EP of the same title (via Nettwerk), showcasing Hearn’s exceptional talent for weaving heartfelt narratives into his music.
“Birthdays & Funerals” commences with a mesmerizing acoustic melody that threads itself throughout the composition, creating a textured backdrop for Caleb Hearn’s commanding storytelling and layered harmonies. It explores the idea of a partnership built not only on sharing life’s joyful moments but also on confronting life’s most challenging trials together. The track’s lyrical depth reflects Hearn’s experiences and remarkable growth as a songwriter, offering listeners an authentic look into the complexities of love, companionship, and vulnerability.
Caleb Hearn shares this of his new single,
“‘Birthdays & Funerals’ started as a song title that I thought of while sitting on the bus on tour. I didn’t have a solid direction for the song until I had a session in Nashville with some other great writers and ended up writing the perfect love song for my fiancé. It was so surreal getting to work with David Hodges who I have looked up to for such a long time. He was able to make the song come to life with some cool production ideas. He had this unique riff on guitar and the minute he played it we all knew that was the direction for the song. We were able to use ‘birthdays and funerals’ as a metaphor for experiencing everything life has to offer – the ‘good and bad.’ which became the song concept: ‘I want your everything, the birthday and the funerals.’ It captured how I felt in my own relationship, making the song quite relatable. When we both open up and let each other in on the good and bad parts that life brings us, we seem to grow together so much more.”
After the release of his early 2023 EP 1200 sq ft, which was deeply rooted in stories about his childhood and upbringing, Caleb Hearn’s musical journey took a transformative turn as he joined forces with acclaimed producers David Hodges (Ed Sheeran, Pink, LANY) and Dan Swank (All Time Low). Hodges brought his creative prowess to the production, infusing the song with a distinct and captivating sound. Swank contributed his songwriting finesse to the project, resulting in a synergy that perfectly captured the essence of the track. Moreover, Caleb Hearn collaborated with Andrew Tufano (Ben Rector, MercyMe) and Marc Scibilia (Quinn XCII, Lennon Stella) on his forthcoming music.
While Caleb ruminates on his past struggles, the Birthdays & Funerals EP is grounded in the present showcasing the man he’s becoming and the man he ultimately wants to be. While the title track speaks directly to the love of his life, upcoming tracks touch upon future parenthood and understanding the choices and chances his own father took on the road of life.
