Mississippi Lyrical Lofi Artist Laeland Announces ‘look at the mess we made’ LP

Today, Mississippi-based “sad-rap” artist Laeland announces his next album look at the mess we made, out via Nettwerk August 25. The deeply personal project builds on the rapper-singer-producer’s March EP Love Is Killing U, Vol. 1, adding five new songs. Notably, Laeland (born Bradley Davis) has some form of production credits on each song.
“I wanted to connect the feeling of randomly dropping a glass to a relationship,” he states. “You think you’ve got a good grip on what’s going on, but something is completely flipped out of your hands into a million pieces. How do we put it back together? It’s an observation. Look at this mess we allowed to happen. What are we going to do about it?”
Today, Laeland releases the single “Are We Wasting Our Time Again?” featuring Skinny Atlas. The track carries an alternative R&B undercurrent, with a quirky up-and-down guitar riff giving way to Laeland’s breathy vocals.
“At this point in the relationship, two people are at an impasse,” he shares. “They’ve been in the relationship, got out of the relationship, and are messing with the idea they can be close or intimate with one another again. You wonder how it’s going to end up. It’s difficult to just be friends, because they love each other in a certain type of way. So, you’re opening up a dialogue.”
