Caleb Hearn Returns With New Single “1/2 as good as her” via Nettwerk + Announces Spring Tour With Ron Pope
March 3, 2023 BY Jason Currell
Rising Nashville-via-North Carolina singer/songwriter Caleb Hearn arrives with his new single “1/2 as good as her” via Nettwerk. The release is accompanied by Caleb Hearn’s tour announcement supporting Ron Pope and fellow Nettwerk labelmate, Lydia Luce, beginning next month.
The 22-year-old artist belies his age penning tender tracks at the narrative crossroads of relationships, missed opportunities, and the lessons to be had from young love. However, with his latest offering, Caleb shifts gears and focuses on his family roots. “1/2 as good as her” touches upon Caleb’s deep relationship he has with his grandmother and emphasizes the many experiences he had growing up. A song showcasing Caleb’s vulnerability, the song resonates with authentic, heartfelt, and relatable storytelling. No matter what was going on for Caleb, his grandmother was always there for him, being both his rock and teacher from a young age. “1/2 as good as her” pays homage to the woman that has been his guiding light from the very start. Watch Caleb capture his grandma’s tearful reaction to hearing the song for the first time on Instagram.
Caleb Hearn shares this about his new single, “I feel as if our grandparents tend to be the foundations to a family. The way that they raise their children tends to be replicated from generation to generation. I don’t think we truly grasp the amount of effort and hard work that our grandparents have made in their lives to build a family, a home, a lifestyle that is given to us to simply enjoy. Both of my grandparents never even went to college but worked so hard to give their kids a better life then they had, and that idea is just passed down by generation to me. I want the same for my kids. Sometimes I feel like we don’t truly understand what our grandparents had to go through to be who they are today. One of the lyrics in this song says, ‘It’s the lines from years of smiling and the softness of her hands.’ I think that line really explains how much effort and love my grandmother has given in her life. I’ve never seen her not smiling and it’s almost like the wrinkles she has on her face today are just symbols of her entire life.”
Caleb shared his We’re Getting Older EP in September 2022, which took listeners through the complex stages of heartbreak–from the moment you realize you’ve lost the person you love to learning how to deal with the pain that follows. The 6-track EP featured singles “Where Do We Go From Here?,” which has amassed over 7.3M Spotify streams and the title track “We’re Getting Older” eclipsing 3M streams. With fans clamoring for new music, Caleb released his standalone single “1000 Reasons” at the end of 2022 and in under 4 weeks, the song surpassed the 1M streams mark on Spotify.
On April 14th, Caleb will head out with Ron Pope and Lydia Luce on 14 tour dates starting in Austin and concluding with a hometown show in Nashville on June 3rd.

Moving in a similar ebb and flow, Caleb Hearn’s songs translate like a story recounted to a trusted confidant. The North Carolina-born and Nashville-based singer/songwriter conveys an intimate level of detail upon his music. Lyrics double as snapshots of unfiltered, candid conversations usually never meant to be shared on this scale—yet he shares them. This approach has cemented him as a rising phenomenon with over 170M cumulative streams across 3M monthly Spotify listeners, and over 1.4M TikTok fans spanning across 23.3M video likes.
After a series of successful singles in the span of two years that included “It’s Always Been You,” “Always Be 2.0,” and “Brown Eyes, Brown Hair” combining for 80M Spotify streams alone, Caleb took his next leap by sharing his EP We’re Getting Older in the fall of 2022. In the lead up to We’re Getting Older, he endured a breakup, moved to a different city, and stole away to Los Angeles to write. Along this wild journey and just at 22-years-old, Caleb Hearn continues to evolve both creatively and personally. He’s ready for his next chapter that begins with “1/2 as good as her” and is placing more focus on songwriting, musicianship, and touring as he prepares to release a new chapter of music this year.
