Hayden Calnin
Most people are asleep when “middle night” begins, but in the hours approaching midnight, Australian singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Hayden Calnin would slip into his coastal studio and create. He often recorded long after the world had gone to sleep, absorbing the energy of the evening. The seven-song EP named after these late-night sessions, Middle Night [due 21 November 2025 via Nettwerk], captures those quiet hours when – as Hayden explains – “strange happenings and deeper thoughts often happen”.
On Middle Night, Hayden opens up like never before – and over a patchwork of indie, folk, and alternative soundscapes he delivers his most candid body of work yet. “Making music is the best way for me to put my feelings and experiences out there,” he says. “I’m not a great talker, so I wanted my songwriting to be more personal. This project seemed like the right avenue for me to really get everything out. It’s a very honest body of work.”
Over the past decade, Hayden has quietly carved out a space of his own — releasing a string of EPs and albums that have amassed over 100 million streams and earned praise from The Guardian, American Songwriter, and Atwood Magazine. His songs have featured in hit TV shows including The Good Doctor, The Vampire Diaries, Suits, So You Think You Can Dance, and the trailer for the Academy® Award-nominated film Room.
As a producer and collaborator, he’s worked with artists like Didirri, Harrison Storm, Riley Pearce, Woodlock, and NYCK, and co-wrote the global smash hit “Falling Up” with Dean Lewis. He’s also shared stages with the likes of Matt Corby, Leif Vollebekk, Tom Odell, and The Antlers.
In the end, Hayden might just inspire you to say what you need to say without fear. “I’m still the same guy, but maybe with a few more grey hairs,” he laughs. “I feel more comfortable in my skin every passing year. I hope it continues.”
