Bre Kennedy Shares the Authentic + Heartfelt single “Before I Have A Daughter” Cowritten with Lori McKenna
September 23, 2022 BY Jason Currell
After playing an incredible set at Nashville’s 2022 AmericanaFest just last week, Bre Kennedy returns with her authentic and heartfelt anthem “Before I Have A Daughter.” Co-written with Lori McKenna, “Before I Have A Daughter” is a coming-of-age song about Bre growing into the woman she is, finding acceptance about the beauty in the mess of life, and celebrating how far she’s come as a woman before she has a daughter of her own. Along with the song’s release, she is also supporting The Paper Kites on their Fall 2022 North American tour featuring appearances in New York, Boston, Chicago, Seattle, Portland, and more, and ultimately finishing in Los Angeles on October 8 at the Teragram Ballroom.
On the emotional video, Bre shares, “In the last few years, I have been building a relationship with my mother for the first time in my life. When I wrote this song I knew I wanted to incorporate that beautiful part of my healing with my mother and the one growing with her mother as well. Everyone’s family story is different and what is most important to me with mine is working towards healing and I feel very lucky I’ve been able to find that before I have a daughter. This video begins with my mother and I going through photos from my childhood… some I was seeing for the first time. It was important for me to shine a light on strong mothers and fathers and their beautiful family stories too. This video was filmed & directed by Hannah Gray Hall. Footage of me, my mother and grandmother filmed by Tabitha Turner. Guitar by Austin Webb and piano performance by Jake Finch.”
