With courage and honesty The Harmaleighs take a brave step at exposing vulnerability through their songs…’Don’t Panic’ displays the intense emotionally draining mood the band sprinkles over their smooth indie-folk arrangements.” — Nothing But Hope And Passion
“An urgent, raucous affair, The Harmaleighs’ new single ‘Sorry, I’m Busy’ captures the paralyzing power of social anxiety through intimate lyrics and raw indie rock.” – Atwood Magazine
The Harmaleighs (Haley Grant and Kaylee Jasperson) share the official video for new track “Don’t Panic” from upcoming LP She Won’t Make Sense (out August 2nd on Nettwerk), a concept album about mental illness – specifically Haley’s deeply personal journey through anxiety, depression and mania. The follow up track to the album’s frenetically catchy lead single, “Sorry, I’m Busy,” which dealt with Haley’s crippling social anxiety, “Don’t Panic” slows things down with calming dreamlike synths, while the subject matter deals with feelings of incessant worry, isolation and hesitation. The Harmaleighs recently wrapped tour dates with Ages and Ages and will hit the road again next month with And The Kids. All dates are listed below.
Haley says of the song, “I was in a constant state of worry. My relationship was falling apart, my friend group was changing, my career path was unclear, and my mind was fucked. It felt like every aspect of my life was in complete and utter turmoil. ‘Don’t Panic’ was written in my bathroom at 3:30am about trying to calm myself down but being fearful that panic was actually fueling my creativity. It made me question whether or not I should be seeking help or letting this type of fear run its course because it was allowing me to write these songs that I am so proud of. The last line of the chorus, ‘but what if that’s all I’m good at’ comes from me being scared I’ll be unable to write if I am mentally stable.“
Produced by Dan Molad (Lucius, JD McPherson, Tweedy), She Won’t Make Sense is a stark contrast from their previous releases, having evolved from their acoustic beginnings to a fuller sound involving synths, strings and drums. The album covers the full spectrum of sound, from heavier rock tunes to somber folk, to properly convey the emotional weight of the album’s subject matter.
