Graeme James Releases Spring-Themed EP ‘A Sea of Infinite Possibilities”

Today, internationally acclaimed folk artist Graeme James releases his Spring-themed EP, A Sea of Infinite Possibilities. Graeme says, “Following on from ‘The Weight of Many Winters,’ an intense EP exploring death and despair, my Spring EP is an exuberant celebration of life and all of its joys. As the days start to lengthen again and the snow melts, all of nature witnesses a sudden and profound restoration, erupting into color and life. Throughout human history, spring has been symbolically associated with new beginnings, and ‘A Sea Of Infinite Possibilities’ explores the notion of a world being reborn. Featuring themes of rebirth and renewal and even a song written to my daughter before she was born, it observes a world that is abounding in new and exciting possibilities, a world in which, as poet David Whyte states, ‘Everything is waiting for you.’” Listen to the EP HERE.
The EP’s title track was written in the months leading up to the birth of Graeme’s daughter, Eva. It is the most personal song on the EP and was recorded to the rhythm of actual heartbeat recordings taken at the 20th week of pregnancy. Marveling at the vast number of unknowns for life that has barely begun, the song asks the question ‘Is this what it is like to dive into a sea of infinite possibilities?’.”
Earlier this year, Graeme announced plans to release four seasonal EPs, starting with Old Storms in New Places, which came out in September at the same time as the autumnal equinox (listen here). Next came The Weight Of Many Winters, which, as the title suggests, is inspired by the emotional and physical landscape of the winter season. This EP featured “The Voyage Of James Caird,” which Rolling Stone named a “Song You Need To Know,” saying Graeme “revives the lost art of the shipwreck song.” Listen to The Weight Of Many Winters HERE.
Though he is now based in the Netherlands, Graeme spent the last number of years building a large and loyal fan base throughout his native New Zealand and beyond with his carefully crafted multi-instrumental soundscapes. His captivating and dynamic live shows are performed as a one-man band with the aid of a loop pedal to layer violin, guitar, bass, baritone ukulele, banjo, mandolin, accordion, harmonica and percussion.
