LA-born singer, songwriter, and producer Brandon Jenner shares the tender new song “Life for Two,” written at the request of a dying fan in Denmark as a song for her two young children. Jenner tells The Bluegrass Situation, “For me, the direction for the song was to write a letter, from her perspective, about what she would want her children to know before she passes. A letter filled with comforting words and some advice on how she thinks their lives would be best lived. ‘Life for Two’ became the title and I hope this song brings some comfort to those who are going through personal loss in their own lives.”
“Life for Two” is the latest release from Jenner’s upcoming EP and Nettwerk debut, Short of Home, out June 11th. After a whirlwind of gigs around the world, marriage, and the birth of his twin sons, he wrote, recorded, and produced the EP 2020. Coupling life changes with a lifetime devoted to music thus far, Short of Home sees Brandon open up like never before.

Jenner previously shared album single “There You Are,” where slide guitar echoes underneath dusty verses as his high register hypnotizes on the hook. The single was accompanied by a poignant and powerful music video directed by Elijah Allan-Blitz that follows two brothers who live their lives in very different ways, but both carrying an emotional weight that keeps them connected, regardless of physical distance or life paths.
Brandon’s music feels like a lot of different things—often all at once. In some ways, it’s like your childhood best friend disclosing an important truth by the glow of a beach bonfire. In other ways, it’s like the moment you stop worrying about what other people think and can laugh and smile anywhere without apology. With a singer-songwriter mom (Linda Thompson), he went from “being a fly on the wall” in his stepdad’s studio (David Foster) to developing his own relationship with music when Ben Harper’s “Forever” got him through his first true breakup. After a pair of EPs and major syncs as one half of Brandon & Leah, he launched his solo career with the independent Burning Ground EP in 2016. The title track amassed over 26.5 million Spotify streams as he claimed coveted real estate on popular playlists. In between tours with Rachael Yamagata and Joshua Radin, he unveiled three EPs: Face The World [2018], Plan On Feelings [2019], and So Childish [2020].
