Wanting Announces 2014 North American Tour
"This Chinese-born, Canada-based singer-songwriter put on an unparalleled set thick with emotion, energy and musical chops…with a soulful, expressive voice, vulnerable lyrics and striking looks.” – Billboard.biz (2012 Live Review)
Vancouver-based, China-born singer/songwriter Wanting has announced a North American tour in support of her sophomore album, Say The Words. The tour will launch on Thursday, February 20th in her current home city of Vancouver, B.C. and wrap on Tuesday, March 25th in Seattle, WA (all dates below). This marks Wanting’s largest tour of North America to date, following a short run of sold-out dates a year ago in support of debut album Everything In The World.
Wanting is currently making her way around Asia, where Say The Words debuted at #1 in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau, Singapore and Malaysia, and shot to #1 on QQ, a Beijing-based music streaming service boasting more than 780 million members. Additionally, album track “When It’s Lonely,” one of three album trucks sung in her native of Mandarin, is featured on the Chinese version of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire movie soundtrack.
With Say The Words, which she co-produced with Ron Aniello, Wanting takes her piano-swept pop melodies to the next level, introducing elements of jazz and hip-hop on such tracks as Latin-groove tinged “Time, My Friend” (featuring Far East Movement), retro-soul “Exit This Way” and empowering rock-pop anthem “STHU.” Rounding out the album are two breakout ballads, “Love Ocean” and “When It’s Lonely,” sung in her native Mandarin, and upbeat “Us Under The Sunshine,” in both Mandarin and English.
Wanting’s 2012 debut album Everything In The World exploded last year in Asia. Smash single “You Exist In My Song” raked in more than 100 Million combined video views, was the #1 radio single in China for 8 consecutive weeks and received over 10 awards. The album itself was certified 6x Platinum and received 15 Best New Artist Awards across Asia. Wanting closed out 2012 with a performance on The China Central Television New Year’s Gala, viewed by an estimated audience of 700 million. Earlier this year, Wanting, who has been based in Vancouver for the past several years, was named the city’s first-ever Tourism Ambassador To China.
