Mree Shares New Music, An Inspiring Collection of Tracks Set To Heal The Spirit and Mind

The Portland-based multi-instrumentalist, singer, and producer Mree achieves ataraxia between lush chords, warm tones, and breathy vocalizations. The upcoming EP Bloom skillfully taps into the frequency and vibe that the spirit and mind need right now – to connect, to be present, and when necessary, to let go (out August 14 via Nettwerk Records).

We’ve been witnessing a lot of tension in the world today,” she observes. “I wanted to create a space where everyone could let go, breathe, and find some calm. I gave myself the freedom to play with different textures and create something natural.”

Mree conjures a dream folk sound chock full of sparse lyrics, ethereal orchestration, and magnetic vocals.  The first single “In Your Eyes” is about the impermanent nature of life. Having to let go of someone or something in the cycle of life and death.  “All we have in the physical world is temporary and although it can be painful, there is also great beauty in accepting that,” says Mree.  Meanwhile, chants rise and fall in and out of keys and strings on “Open Arms.” “It’s a reminder to be in the present moment,” she goes on. “I’ve adopted a way of thinking that led me to this realization. There’s so much safety in the present, and you’re almost always okay. If I can fully get into that, I can appreciate life and everything happening.” Then, there’s “May.” Sparse piano tiptoes through the dewy haze as she envisions the idyllic onset of spring.

Track List:

  1. In Your Eyes
  2. Open Arms

About Mree:

Born Marie Hsiao, Mree has crafted an entrancing, engaging, and ever-evolving catalog.  Mree began writing her songs at the age of 14 and released her debut album Grow at age 18; the album debuted at #18 on the iTunes Singer/Songwriter chart.  Tallying over 16 million YouTube views, Mree’s music has appeared in television series such as Grey’s Anatomy, Bones, and Beauty and the Beast as well as ad campaigns for Target. Beyond praises from NPR, American Songwriter, and more, Bon Iver (Justin Vernon) personally touted her music videos on social media. Along the way, she’s toured with Priscilla Ahn, Nina Nesbitt, Ron Pope, and Novo Amor in addition to headlining shows. Mree is also an avid gamer.  Expanding her sphere of influence within the video game world, Mree’s vocals also course through the Virtual Reality game Luna.  Inspired by favorites such as Riceboy Sleeps by Jónsi and Alex, Mree diligently composes production from keys and plug-ins to capture the moment, rather than lean on lyrics.  For the latest EP Bloom, instead of sitting down with a guitar and then pursuing production, she wrote and produced simultaneously. As such, the music moves in lockstep with palpable intent.  “I would love for people to be able to put this on and then just kind of take a break from the stressors in their lives and maybe, find a place of peace and reflection.”
