Nettwerk Records At SXSW: Great Lake Swimmers, Family Of The Year, Kidstreet

With SXSW just around the corner, Nettwerk Records is excited to share details on its label artists who will be appearing in Austin: Great Lake Swimmers, Family Of The Year and Kidstreet. Keep reading for information on each artist and their schedules.

Great Lake Swimmers

Toronto’s indie folk/rock darlings Great Lake Swimmers (GLS) will release their fifth studio album, New Wild Everywhere, on April 3rd. The album captures all of the excitement and intuitive musicianship of a group at the peak of their creative powers, with 12 new tracks that reveal a depth and maturity only previously hinted at by lead singer and songwriter Tony Dekker. The first single (and the band’s most upbeat song to date), “Easy Come Easy Go,” just grabbed the #1 spot on Canada’s CBC Radio 3’s R3-30, signaling one of the fastest rises of any single to the top of that chart. New Wild Everywhere is the follow up to 2009’s Lost Channels, which debuted at #10 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart, was a favorite among influential bloggers and NPR staff, and received public endorsements by the likes of Feist, Robert Plant, NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams and cyclist Lance Armstrong. Family Of The Year

(Keep readin for more information and schedules...)

Formed in 2009, Family Of The Year (FOTY) - Joe Keefe (vocals, guitars), Sebastian Keefe (drums, vocals), James Buckey (guitars, vocals) and Christina Schroeter (keyboards, vocals) - has accomplished a healthy dose of success in such a short amount of time. After years of “cohabitating” in a run-down house and relying on each other for inspiration and support, the members of the Los Angeles outfit have formed unbreakable bonds that are undeniable in their infectious live performances and prolific songwriting. The band has already played sold-out shows in England and across Europe--including a triumphant set at France’s largest music festival Les Vieilles Charrues--and garnered support stints with Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Mumford & Sons, Grouplove, and Milo Greene. Early supporters have included NPR, Guardian UK, NME, CMJ and the BBC to name a few. Described as “intense and atmospheric” [Rolling Stone], “a vacation in a song,” [NPR], FOTY is “The Mamas and The Papas on acid” [Steven Tyler (Aerosmith)]. St. Croix EP is out March 6th; watch the official music video for the title track above or here:

Hailing from Waterloo, Ontario, Kidstreet released their debut album, Fuh Yeah, on Nettwerk last fall. Made up of two brothers and a sister, the gifted young family of Karl Snyder (drums), Cliff (synth + guitar) and younger sister Edna (piano + vocal) are relatively new on the scene, but already turning heads with their unique form of synth-pop and wildly energetic performances. Canada’s leading music publication Exclaim! said of the band, “Kidstreet’s sound embraces both ‘90s big-beat dance music and indie rock, hearkening back to the electronic-tinged glory days…” The trio has toured alongside the likes of Dragonette, Girltalk, Thunderheist, Health and Rich Aucoin. Last year, their track “Song” was handpicked by Ford Canada as the soundtrack to their 2011 TV commercial campaign.
