On Friday March 11, at Bymark Restaurant in Toronto, music industry luminaries gathered to celebrate the accomplishments and career of Nettwerk's CEO Terry McBride, along with Mary Martin, at the MMF (MusicManagersForum) Canada’s 5th Annual Honour Roll Reception.
Over 125 leaders of the music and management industries attended this lavish event and one of the many highlights of Canadian Music Week. The Honour Roll award was presented to industry leader Terry McBride, which sees him join the ranks previous winners Bernie Finkelstein, Bruce Allen and Ray Danniels and Sam Feldman.
Long time Nettwerk founder and partner of nearly 30 years, Mark Jowett, presented McBride with his award, while long time friend, EMI Canada President, Deane Cameron, was unable to attend but sent a special congratulatory video message. Guests were also treated to an acoustic performance by one of McBride’s newest clients Liam Titcomb. McBride was on hand to personally accept this honour, and did so with his customary soft-spoken grace. Well known for his social awareness and charitable efforts, McBride began his acceptance by asking the audience to join him in 30 seconds of silence to acknowledge the catastrophic events unfolding following the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
After more than two decades together, multi-platinum recording artist Sarah McLachlan and her long-time manager Terry McBride, CEO and co-founder of Vancouver-based Nettwerk Music Group, have decided to end their professional relationship.
"I'd like to thank all the people at Nettwerk for their hard work, especially Terry McBride, Mark Jowett, Dan Fraser and Ric Arboit,” says McLachlan. “However, it’s time for a change, and I’m looking forward to exploring opportunities with new representation.”
McBride adds, “Sarah and Nettwerk have had an amazing 23 years and a multitude of successes together. We wish her only the best as she moves forward in her career, and will continue to work with her and support her."
Though Nettwerk's 25th anniversary year has technically passed, we continue to find catalogue in our vaults to share with all the music lovers out there. Nettwerk continues the celebration of its 25th year with the release today of Nettwerk: 25 Years Of Music We Love (Wiley Canada), a tell-all book from Canadian author Denise Ryan. Ryan takes the reader on a behind-the-scenes journey into the making of Canada's best known indie label, exposing controversial, funny and shocking stories about the making (and breaking) of music careers and the transformation of Nettwerk from its humble origins in CEO Terry McBride's tiny Vancouver-apartment to the company it is today. The book also includes hundreds of never-before-published tour photos and insider stories direct from the artists themselves, including Sarah McLachlan, Skinny Puppy, Barenaked Ladies, and more.

Nettwerk Music Group is excited to announce the signing of rising Chinese star Wanting Qu to its management, label and publishing rosters. Wanting is in the midst of recording her first full-length English album, due out next year.
Wanting (whose last name Qu means "music, song, melody") started to sing before she could even talk. Her mother recalls, "You would know when she was awake because she’d be singing the theme song from this Chinese TV series called ‘Undercover Cop' loudly in bed to the ceiling, every morning.”
Wanting left her family and China when she was 16 and entered Canada as an international business student. It wasn't long before she realized her true passion and dream was to become an influential recording artist. She went on to earn her degree in business, but also tried her hand at songwriting in both Chinese and English and began performing in the Toronto area. She relocated to Vancouver, continuing to write and perform at events. It was there that she caught the attention of Nettwerk Music Group, home of such stars as Sarah McLachlan and Dido.
Wanting recently had three songs featured in a Mercedes Benz commercial and compilation album, which was distributed and promoted widely in China and has led to extensive attention around her, especially in her hometown of Harbin. She recently performed to over 10,000 people at a local festival, and she is now creating a following in Beijing.
In celebration of Nettwerk Music Group’s 25th anniversary, Wiley Publishing will release Nettwerk: 25 Years Of Music We Love on October 7, 2010. Currently celebrating its 25th Anniversary, Nettwerk Music Group has announced some exciting changes and additions to the record label, including a U.S. distribution partnership with Alternative Distribution Alliance (ADA) and a number of key senior executive appointments. ADA is the industry’s leading distributor of independent music and video and home to some of the most important indie labels in the business, including Sub Pop, Beggars Music Group, Epitaph and many more. Under the agreement, ADA will handle the U.S. physical and digital distribution of current and upcoming Nettwerk releases, including albums from The Weepies, Great Lake Swimmers, BT, Ladytron, fun. and Angus & Julia Stone, as well as Nettwerk’s catalogue, which includes Skinny Puppy, Delerium, Old Crow Medicine Show, Tiësto, Be Good Tanyas and Hope Sandoval.

Over 60 releases are currently available, including classic albums from Skinny Puppy, The Finn Brothers, Gob, Sense Field and Tara MacLean, as well as popular compilations and soundtracks.
