Wanting's Debut Album 'Everything In The World' Goes Platinum In China In Its First Week!

Watch the lyric video for “我的歌声里 (You Exist In My Song),” a track recorded in Wanting’s native tongue of Mandarin, from her debut album Everything In The World.

Vancouver-based, Chinese-born artist Wanting has gone Platinum in China in just one week with her debut album, Everything In The World, which Universal Music China (via a licensing deal with Nettwerk) released on July 5th. Though based in Canada, Wanting has spent the past few years building a rabid online following via Chinese YouTube, and most recently had the song “Drenched” from her debut album prominently featured in the Chinese indie-flick Love In The Buff.

Nettwerk CEO Terry McBride (who also personally manages this rising talent) comments on Wanting’s success in China: “Everything In The World is an album three years in the making. Wanting delivered an authentic and heartfelt album that I believed would not only resonate with her generation, but would also transcend language boundaries and talk to a worldwide audience. It was essential that we had the right partners in China to deliver this album properly, and we found that in Universal Music China.”

Everything In The World was released via Nettwerk Records in North America on April 24, and her unique story quickly caught the attention of the CBC flagship nightly news program The National

Shiny Toy Guns To Release 'III' On October 23; Lead Single "Waiting Alone" Out Now

The warm, dry air of the Los Angeles basin continues its constant temperature, inviting art and progress for those who can stare through the plastic debauchery of its passing inhabitants. Just underneath the surface, buried in a submarine-like state of creative metamorphosis, the four original members of electronic rock outfit Shiny Toy Guns shape-shift in circles; building, cutting, carving and finishing an album they have spent the last three years of their lives in violent labor with. III, which marks the elated return of vocalist Carah Faye Charnow and the first new material by the original line-up in six years, will be released October 23 on Five Seven Music. The lead single “Waiting Alone” made its debut yesterday on Alternative Press’ website (here) and is available now at iTunes and all other digital retailers.

III, the band’s third album features Carah Faye Charnow, the original vocalist who, along with band mates Chad Petree (vocals/guitars), Jeremy Dawson (keyboards) and Mikey Martin (drums), propelled Shiny Toy GUns into the spotlight with their first hits “Le Disko” and “You Are The One” from their debut 2006 release We Are Pilots. Production on III, courtesy of Mirror Machines (the band’s Petree and Dawson), is lush and dramatic, ranging from driving tracks like “Somewhere To Hide,” “Mercy” and “The Sun” to sublime like “Wait For Me” and “Fading Listening.” The album is mixed by the legendary Tony Maserati (Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Jason Mraz).

Passenger Joins Nettwerk To Release 'All The Little Lights' On Aug. 28; Fall Tour With Ed Sheeran Confirmed

"Rosenberg’s voice shimmers…” –- Rolling Stone Australia

UK-born, adopted Australian son Passenger (Mike Rosenberg) has signed to Nettwerk Records and will release his latest, already critically-lauded album, All The Little Lights, in North America on August 28, 2012. Additionally, the album’s lead single, “The Wrong Direction,” is available today in iTunes; the single comes bundled as a 4-track EP, and includes two acoustic songs (“Life’s for the Living” and “Feather On the Clyde”) as well as a live performance of fan favorite “I Hate” (Live from The Borderline London).

Recorded at Linear Studios in Sydney (Empire of the Sun and Josh Pyke), All The Little Lights is the most accomplished Passenger record to date. “It’s very different to [the last album] Flight Of The Crow,” says Rosenberg. “This one is a bigger production and a bit more modern sounding.” Sydney’s Sunday Herald Sun agrees, calling the album “a revelation” and adding, “Passenger has impressively travelled in a bolder direction to achieve a mature new album. (4/5 stars)”

Passenger just wrapped up the UK leg of his headline tour in support of All The Little Lights, which included sold-out dates in London, Brighton, Manchester, Cambridge, Southampton and Glasgow. From June 13 – July 15, he’ll be touring Europe for the first time in his career, and has already sold-out shows in Amsterdam and Copenhagen. This fall, Passenger support Ed Sheeran on his North American and UK tour dates, starting September 17th in Toronto. (Full list of North American dates below.)

At the end of 2011, Nettwerk Record and Old Crow Medicine Show learned that "Wagon Wheel," the break-out single from their 2004 debut album O.C.M.S., had been certified GOLD® by the RIAA®, surpassing 500,000 in track sales. Two of Nettwerk's co-founders, CEO Terry McBride and VP Internaional A&R/Publishing Mark Jowett, caught up with a few members of Old Crow Medicine Show while they were in Nashville this week to present the band with their Gold Plaques (photo above).

Originally sketched by Bob Dylan and later finished by Old Crow Medicine Show’s Ketch Secor, "Wagon Wheel" remains the band's most revered and top-selling single, now with over 715,000 in track sales.

Upon receiving the news initially, Secor reflected on the history of the track:
“Wagon Wheel” is a gold record 75 years in the making. Back in 1995, I first heard Bob Dylan sing that striking chorus on his unfinished 1972 studio outtake of “Rock Me Mama”. Being an audacious, banjo-picking teenager, I quickly rattled off three verses and rushed it out to coffeehouses and street corners, singing it to anyone who would listen. In 2003, seeking a copyright to the song, I learned that Dylan had credited it to Memphis songster Arthur “Big Boy” Crudup, who recorded the 1950’s boogie-woogie number “Rock Me Mama.” From there, I learned that Crudup attributed the song to Mississippi-turned-Chicagoan Big Bill Broonzy, who recorded it way back in the late 1920’s. So, from Big Bill to Big Boy to Bob and on down to me, “Wagon Wheel” has become a true American folksong, borrowed, half-stolen, and sung out far and wide. The rest, as they say, is history.
