Nettwerk Music Group is excited to share its Fall Music Sampler 2012, highlighting some of the most exciting music coming from Nettwerk artists this fall, as well as some recent favorites. It's available here: http://amzn.to/SZIDs3.
The sampler features stand-out tracks from the label's latest signings, like the buzzed about LA-based band Family of the Year (who LA Weekly describes as an “off-center California pop sound for the here and now”), UK-born singer/songwriter Passenger (who NME says shows “heaps of style and intelligence”), Scottish indie-folk band Admiral Fallow (who Mojo calls "Scottish indie-rock's new champs"), Chinese-born, Vancouver-based artist Wanting (whose debut album Everything In The World is already triple Platinum in China), and Vancouver-based singer/songwriter Joshua Hyslop (who the CBC has called "superbly talented"). It also includes songs from favorite Nettwerk artists such as Morgan Page, Delerium, whose upcoming album is their first new studio release in six years, State Radio, Great Lake Swimmers and Junkie XL.
Victoria, B.C.-based roots rock outfit Current Swell have joined Nettwerk’s label roster to release their new album, Long Time Ago, on October 16, 2012. To celebrate, the band is currently offering the album bonus track, “Young and Able,” as a free download.
Watch the lyric video for “我的歌声里 (You Exist In My Song),” a track recorded in Wanting’s native tongue of Mandarin, from her debut album Everything In The World.
Vancouver-based, Chinese-born artist Wanting has gone Platinum in China in just one week with her debut album, Everything In The World, which Universal Music China (via a licensing deal with Nettwerk)released on July 5th. Though based in Canada, Wanting has spent the past few years building a rabid online following via Chinese YouTube, and most recently had the song “Drenched” from her debut album prominently featured in the Chinese indie-flick Love In The Buff.
Nettwerk CEO Terry McBride (who also personally manages this rising talent) comments on Wanting’s success in China: “Everything In The World is an album three years in the making. Wanting delivered an authentic and heartfelt album that I believed would not only resonate with her generation, but would also transcend language boundaries and talk to a worldwide audience. It was essential that we had the right partners in China to deliver this album properly, and we found that in Universal Music China.”
Everything In The World was released via Nettwerk Records in North America on April 24, and her unique story quickly caught the attention of the CBC flagship nightly news program The National.
The warm, dry air of the Los Angeles basin continues its constant temperature, inviting art and progress for those who can stare through the plastic debauchery of its passing inhabitants. Just underneath the surface, buried in a submarine-like state of creative metamorphosis, the four original members of electronic rock outfit Shiny Toy Guns shape-shift in circles; building, cutting, carving and finishing an album they have spent the last three years of their lives in violent labor with. III, which marks the elated return of vocalist Carah Faye Charnow and the first new material by the original line-up in six years, will be released October 23 on Five Seven Music. The lead single “Waiting Alone” made its debut yesterday on Alternative Press’ website (here) and is available now at iTunes and all other digital retailers.
III, the band’s third album features Carah Faye Charnow, the original vocalist who, along with band mates Chad Petree (vocals/guitars), Jeremy Dawson (keyboards) and Mikey Martin (drums), propelled Shiny Toy GUns into the spotlight with their first hits “Le Disko” and “You Are The One” from their debut 2006 release We Are Pilots. Production on III, courtesy of Mirror Machines (the band’s Petree and Dawson), is lush and dramatic, ranging from driving tracks like “Somewhere To Hide,” “Mercy” and “The Sun” to sublime like “Wait For Me” and “Fading Listening.” The album is mixed by the legendary Tony Maserati (Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Jason Mraz).
Nettwerk Records was the featured record label on eMusic'sDot 17 Blog earlier this week, as part of the "Office Ambiance" series. Check out the story here to learn what various Nettwerkers are listening too around the office: http://bit.ly/LioVFA.
"Rosenberg’s voice shimmers…” –- Rolling Stone Australia
UK-born, adopted Australian son Passenger (Mike Rosenberg) has signed to Nettwerk Records and will release his latest, already critically-lauded album, All The Little Lights, in North America on August 28, 2012. Additionally, the album’s lead single, “The Wrong Direction,” is available today in iTunes; the single comes bundled as a 4-track EP, and includes two acoustic songs (“Life’s for the Living” and “Feather On the Clyde”) as well as a live performance of fan favorite “I Hate” (Live from The Borderline London).
Recorded at Linear Studios in Sydney (Empire of the Sun and Josh Pyke), All The Little Lights is the most accomplished Passenger record to date. “It’s very different to [the last album] Flight Of The Crow,” says Rosenberg. “This one is a bigger production and a bit more modern sounding.” Sydney’s Sunday Herald Sun agrees, calling the album “a revelation” and adding, “Passenger has impressively travelled in a bolder direction to achieve a mature new album. (4/5 stars)”
Passenger just wrapped up the UK leg of his headline tour in support of All The Little Lights, which included sold-out dates in London, Brighton, Manchester, Cambridge, Southampton and Glasgow. From June 13 – July 15, he’ll be touring Europe for the first time in his career, and has already sold-out shows in Amsterdam and Copenhagen. This fall, Passenger support Ed Sheeran on his North American and UK tour dates, starting September 17th in Toronto. (Full list of North American dates below.)
