The 2013 Juno Nominations were announced today, and multiple Nettwerk Music Group clients received nods in various categories.
Great Lake Swimmers (Nettwerk Records, Nettwerk One Publishing) are nominated for "Roots & Traditional Album of the Year" for their acclaimed 2012 release New Wild Everywhere. Hey Ocean! (Nettwerk Management, Nettwerk One Publishing) is nominated for "Breakthrough Group of the Year." Their latest album IS was released in Canada last year via Universal Music Canada, and just saw its Stateside release last month via Nettwerk Records; the band is currently in the midst of their largest U.S. tour to date. Other Nettwerk One Publishing clients nominated include: Yukon Blonde ("Breakthrough Group of the Year"), Johnny Reid ("Artist of the Year,""Country Album of the Year"), Shawn Desman ("R&B/Soul Recording of the Year) and Victoria Duffield (songwriters Ryan Stewart and Troy Samson; "Pop Album of the Year"). Nettwerk Producer Management also got two nods for "Recording Engineer of the Year": Mike Plotnikoff ("Start of Something Good" - Daughtry, "Breaking Your Heart" - Kelly Clarkson) and Randy Staub ("When We Stand Together" - Nickelback, "What You Want" - Evanescence).

Nettwerk sends a big congratulations to management client fun. for taking home the awards for "Best New Artist" and "Song Of The Year" at last night's 55th Annual Grammy Awards. Early in the evening, the band (who were nominated for six awards total) took to the stage for a live performance of their latest single, "Carry On."

Nettwerk Music Grouphas started off the New Year on a high note, coming off of an exciting 2012 across all facets of the company.
On the management side, the biggest story of the year was fun., who broke out with their smash single “We Are Young feat. Janelle Monae” from sophomore album Some Nights (Fueled by Ramen). The single has gone on to sell over 10.5 million digital copies worldwide and boasts more than 160 million YouTube views, while the album has sold over 1.5 million copies worldwide. The band ended the year with six Grammy® nominations including Album of the Year, Best New Artist and Song of the Year.
Internationally, Vancouver-based singer/songwriter Wanting (who is signed to Nettwerk's management, label and publishing rosters) saw her debut album, Everything In The World, explode in and around China, going Triple Platinum in China and Hong Kong and Platinum in Malaysia and Taiwan. Wanting is nominated for 10 Chinese Music Chart Awards (similar to the Grammy Awards), including Best New Artist, Album of the Year and Singer/Songwriter of the Year.
LA-based band Family of the Year, who sits on Nettwerk’s management and label rosters, saw a local buzz early last year grow into full-fledged national acclaim. Their track “Hero” debuted at #28 on the Triple A Chart (now Top 10), leading Billboard Magazine to highlight them in their “Bubbling Under” weekly feature. The band has seen huge licensing success, with tracks featured in the HBO series Girls, a national Advil television commercial, and a major placement in the anticipated film Thanks For Sharing, starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Mark Ruffalo. They ended 2012 with their debut national TV appearance on Last Call with Carson Daly, and a nod from the Huffington Post, which said, "Family of the Year should be going places besides their next tour stop. Loma Vista is pure pop bliss...it deserves to appear on many year-end Top 10 lists."
Label artist Passenger started off 2013 with his latest album, All The Little Lights,achieving its highest chart ranking (#7) on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart, where it has appeared for 22 straight weeks and counting. The video for lead single “Let Her Go” exploded on YouTube, gaining 6 million views over two months and bringing the current total to 7 million. In the UK, iTunes named All The Little Lights the “Best Singer/Songwriter Album of 2012.” Passenger’s fan-base grew exponentially after extensive tour dates with Ed Sheeran in the U.S. and Europe, leading to his own sold-out debut headline tour in December. He is currently in the midst of a sold-out UK/European headline run.
Nettwerk Music Group is excited to announce an innovative and original new music venture called Nettrax, a full-service electronic music label that will directly solicit and launch standout tracks and albums from a diverse and growing talent pool of musicians and artists in the electronic music scene. With each release, the Los Angeles-based company will provide marketing strategies, as well as digital and/or physical distribution.
Partnering with Nettwerk in establishing and guiding Nettrax is Jared Barboza, who has spent his career managing and implementing strategic development at both Virgin Entertainment and Napster before starting his own artist management company, Abbott Monroe (Morgan Page, Andy Caldwell, Revolvr). A specialist in artist development and music marketing strategy, Barboza will consult on all Nettrax partnerships and new talent acquisition.
“Applying Nettwerk’s established reputation as a label devoted to artist development has enormous potential for the EDM market. The two most common scenarios available for an artist right now is to either sign with a major label who will want a huge commitment up front, or sign with a small label who has limited resources when trying to reach a broader market. Nettrax is the perfect balance between the two,” says Barboza.

Neon Neon (Gruff Rhys and Boom Bip) will release new album Praxis Makes Perfect in the UK on April 29th via Lex Records.
Praxis Makes Perfect is inspired by the life and times of Giangiacomo Feltrinelli. Born in to one of Italy’s wealthiest families, Feltrinelli was a left-wing political activist and published some of the greatest literary works of the 20th century, including The Leopard and Doctor Zhivago. He died in highly suspicious circumstances in 1972.
Praxis Makes Perfect features Sabrina Salerno, Asia Argento, Cate Le Bon, Josh Klinghoffer and follows Neon Neon’s 2008, Mercury-shortlisted debut Stainless Style, a concept album based on the life of colourful motoring mogul John DeLorean.
Gruff Rhys and Boom Bip have also teamed up with playwright Tim Price, director Wils Wilson and National Theatre Wales to create unique Neon Neon live performances. An initial run of shows will take place at an undisclosed Cardiff location from 2nd to 5th May. Tickets are priced £15 and on sale here.

Nettwerk Management client fun. claims “Best Song of 2012” on the U.S. iTunes store for their smash single “We Are Young (feat. Passenger, one of the latest additions to Nettwerk’s label roster, grabs the “Best Singer/Songwriter Album of 2012” in the UKiTunes store for his latest album, All The Little Lights. The UK-born troubadour (real name Mike Rosenberg) has spent the last year playing sold-out headline gigs around the globe, as well as opening for Ed Sheeran in North America and the UK. His break-out single “Let Her Go” has over 4 million YouTube views and continues to see track sales upwards of 2,000 copies a week. In the U.S., All The Little Lights is in its 15th straight week on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart. Additionally, the iTunes U.S. store chose All The Little Lights for inclusion in their current 2012 Chart Toppers sale, while iTunesCanada chose to feature the album in their yearly competitive “Boxing Week” sale. Lastly, Netttwerk management, label and publishing client Wanting takes “Best Album of 2012” honors in four different iTunes territories: Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and Taiwan. The Chinese-born, Vancouver-based singer/songwriter (who sings in both English and Mandarin) released her debut album Everything In The World earlier this year. The album went Platinum in China in its first week, and today is Triple Platinum in China, Double Platinum in Hong Kong and Platinum in Malaysia. Last week, Wanting received 10 Chinese Music Chart Award nominations, including "Album of the Year," "Most Popular New Artist of the Year," and "Best Singer/Songwriter of the Year." She has achieved more than 10 million combined views on YouTube, 8 million combined views on Chinese YouTube (YouKu) and has more than 600,000 followers on Chinese Twitter (Weibo). She has also been featured in a slew of North American press, from CBC’s The Q with Jian Ghomeshi, The Atlantic, Billboard.biz and CBC’s The National, to major Chinese-language media like Sinovision, World Journal, Sing Tao and Epoch Times. Nettwerk One Publishing client Aaron Espe has much to celebrate this holiday season. His song "Through Frozen Forests" is currently the soundtrack to a series of 14 Sainsbury 2012 Christmas Day TV ads in the UK (watch the ads HERE).
