With his sophomore album Rob Me Blind out this week, NYC-based singer/songwriter Jay Brannan has announced a U.S. summer tour in support of the release. The 27-date trek starts in Boston at the Brighton Music Hall on July 18th and wraps in his home city of New York at the Highline Ballroom on August 25th.
Listen to Jay's cover of Nicki Minaj's "Super Bass" live from Eddie's Attic:
Jay’s rabid online following combined with his penchant for connecting with live audiences has allowed him to tour the world multiple times in the past few years, often playing to sold-out rooms across the globe. Usually performing alone with guitar, each show is peppered with a healthy amount of commentary, often expounding on the observations, adventures, and frustrations of his daily life. Jay has also been know to throw in a few covers of his favorite songs, ranging from Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan to Adele and (as linked to above) Nicki Minaj.
For the follow-up to his 2008 critically acclaimed debut album goddamned, Jay teamed up with his dream producer, David Kahne (Regina Spektor, Paul McCartney, The Bangles, Lana Del Rey). Rob Me Blind maintains the signature qualities of a Jay Brannan album--brutal honesty, sharp wit and sparkling melodies--while showcasing Kahne's thoughtful production abilities.
Junkie XL (aka Tom Holkenborg) releases a new single EP for the track “Off The Dancefloor” featuring Isis Salam (Chinese Flash Mob, Thunderheist). “Off The Dancefloor” (OTDF) is from the Dutch-born musician, remixer and producer’s forthcoming studio album, set to drop in 2012. The EP features the album track, along with remixes from NT89, TRIPPPLENIPPPLES and DenizKoyu.
NT89 starts off the EP with his benchmark “future techno” stylings. Better known for their mindf*ck performance art (eggs, glitter, feather bombs, mud, liquid latex, spaghetti) Tokyo’s electropop band, TRIPPPLE NIPPPLES, renders OTDF anew with their stylized tweaks. MTV’s “EDM [Electronic Dance Music] Artist To Watch in 2012” Denis Koyu rounds out the EP with his signature progressive and electro house production.
In other news, Holkenborg collaborated with Hans Zimmer to remix the theme song to the The Academy Awards®. Holkenborg is the first Dutch recording producer involved in the awards. Titled “D_Generation,” the remix is one of six interpretations included on the collection, aptly named The 84th Academy Awards – Celebrate The Music. Other artists who contributed to the compilation are musician/producer/composer Pharrell Williams (The Neptunes), Grammy-winner Esperanza Spalding, percussionist/composer Sheila E., three-time Oscar winning Giorgio Moroder, and two-time Oscar winner A.R. Rahman.
This is not the first time Holkenborg and Zimmer have worked together. In 2010, Zimmer enlisted the talents of the Dutch-born producer/musician to remix the original score to the hit film, Inception.

Chinese-born, Vancouver-based singer/songwriter Wanting has joined Nettwerk’s label, management and publishing rosters, and will release her debut full-length studio album Everything In The World on April 24, 2012. Whether penned in her native tongue of Chinese or English (which she only learned to speak at age 16), Wanting’s piano-swept music has already won a following because her compositions—pop musings that plumb emotion—resonate universally. Without a label behind her, Wanting’s tunes have already sound-tracked the upcoming Chinese film Love in the Buff, appeared on a Mercedes Benz sampler, and amassed combined views of millions on Chinese YouTube.

“One of those superbly talented performers that seems to come from out of nowhere. Young Mr. Hyslop has a singer-songwriter maturity far beyond his years.” – CBC Radio
In anticipation of his first full-length album, Vancouver-based singer-songwriter Joshua Hyslop released “What Have I Done?” (feat. Anna Scouten) via Nettwerk Records.
“What Have I Done?” features the vocal and musical talents of a young man with a mature and measured voice. Despite his youth, Hyslop’s music deftly explores the complicated conversation between the battle and brilliance of life.
“What Have I Done?” is the first new song since last year’s six-song EP, titled Cold Wind. EP received early support from CBC, Earshot Magazine, Penguin Eggs, Exclaim! and others.
Available today, Angus Stone – of critically acclaimed sibling duo, Angus & Julia Stone - shares lead single, “Bird On The Buffalo,” from his forthcoming summer solo release titled Broken Brights.
While on the road in Europe, Stone sat in a hotel room, musing on the symbiotic relationships between the bird and the buffalo, the co-operative behavior between two very different species, working together for mutual survival.
This is Stone. In order to challenge himself as both a musician and performer, Stone draws upon a variety of unexpected sources – instrumentation, vocal stylings, genres – to create his song, “to let the conversation of the energy unfold into a creation,” says Stone.
