New Wild Everywhere Media Reaction:
“These are gentle transmissions from the eyes of life storms, to paraphrase Dekker, a songwriter who eases in and out of blue colours sublimely. It's as outreaching as we've heard yet from GLS, and an indication that the sky is still Dekker's limit. Another wonderful record…” --The Globe and Mail
"...their most mature and polished LP to date. Bouncing between draping strings and bluegrass fiddle, Dekker explores themes of love and change in his signature elemental style, and his choice of language lends a sense of timelessness to his songs." --Paste Magazine
“Dekker's new songs remain artfully enigmatic and haunting...” -- exclaim!
“Great Lake Swimmers, have graced us with an incredible new alb
um: This is another great notch on the belt of a band that has consistently put forth great music since their first release nearly a decade ago, and they show no signs of slowing down.” -- Northern Transmissions
fun. has achieved yet another milestone with their #1 breakthrough hit, “We Are Young (Feat. Janelle Monáe).” The single has just been confirmed as the top-selling track of 2012 thus far and is nearing 3 million in sales.
“We Are Young” – which can also be found on the band’s smash Fueled By Ramen debut album, Some Nights – continues to own the #1 spot on Billboard’s “Hot 100,” where it remains for the fifth consecutive week. What’s more, the track spent six weeks atop the “Top Digital Songs” chart while also dominating Billboard’s new “Top On-Demand Songs” chart. “We Are Young” is now in its fourth week atop the recently launched chart, which measures on-demand play requests and plays from unlimited listener-controlled radio channels.
As if that weren’t enough, “We Are Young” is the number one song in audience at both Modern Rock radio and Mainstream Top 40 radio. A multi-format radio sensation, the track is currently #2 on the “Top Rock Songs” ranking, as well as #4 on the “Top Pop Songs” chart.
fun. – who recently adorned the cover of Billboard – will celebrate the blockbuster success of “We Are Young” with an eagerly awaited performance on CBS’ Late Show with David Letterman, slated for April 23rd (check local listings). Today, Grammy-nominated Morgan Page releases his third studio album, In The Air -- a brilliant balance between kinetic house music and blissful, radio-ready pop. For the album, Page assembled an all-star cast of guests to appear on the original tracks, including Tegan And Sara on "Body Work" and "Video," Jonathan Mendelsohn and AndyCaldwell on "Where Did You Go," Greg Laswell on "Addicted,” and a powerhouse combination of BT, Sultan+ Ned Shepard and AngelaMcCluskey on lead single, "In the Air."
Leading up to the release, Page has already enjoyed many “firsts” for the album. Title track, “In The Air” led to a #1 hit on Billboard’s Hot Dance Airplay. Adding to a long history of Billboard Top 10 successes – “The Longest Road,” “Call My Name,” “Fight For You” and “Strange Condition” – “In The Air” is Page’s first #1 single. Page also reached #1 at popular blog aggregator, Hype Machine, sold out his 2011 North American tour, added to both weekends at Coachella Valley Art & Music Festival and, most recently, signed on for a yearlong residency at Wynn Las Vegas alongside Tiesto, Deadmau5, Afrojack and others.
Check out the above trailer for Big Easy Express, which premiered at SXSW and won the Headliner Audience Award. The documentary, directed by Emmett Malloy, captures a musical journey. Harkening back to the days of jubilant railroad revivals, three bands set out in April 2011 to tour America by vintage train. Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Old Crow Medicine Show, and Mumford & Sons climbed aboard amid the rail yards of Oakland and set out for New Orleans on a “tour of dreams.” Big Easy Express documents the bands’ railway adventures; the high canyons, joyous crowds, blasted skies, late-night laughter, endless music…and a train that was bound for glory.
Big Easy Express will next play at the Hot Docs Festival in Toronto on April 28 and 29. Tickets are available for purchase here: http://bit.ly/GXPxfc.
Grammy-nominated producer/DJ Morgan Page is heating up the Canadian charts with his latest single “Body Work,” a collaboration with indie-darlings Tegan And Sara. The track has climbed to #23 at Top 40 Radio, with the accompanying video in heavy rotation at MuchMusic, now their “Recommended Video Of The Week.” Track sales nearly doubled over the past week with close to 3,000 tracks scanned, bringing total sales to nearly 10,000. “Body Work” is currently sitting at #61 on the SoundScan Overall Digital Track Chart, as well as #14 on the Digital Dance/Electronic Song Chart.
Page will release his third full-length album, In The Air, this Tuesday, April 3, and follow the album release with three special Canadian appearances. Page will stop in Montreal on April 5 at Club 1234 before joining Armin van Buuren for massive shows in Edmonton on April 6 at the ShawConventionCenter and Vancouver on April7 at the Vancouver Convention Center. These appearances follow Page’s 2011 tour dates, which included sold-out shows in Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary and Victoria.
In The Air is currently streaming in its entirety on MuchMusic as a “First Listen” Here: http://bit.ly/GVrUDy
With his sophomore album Rob Me Blind out this week, NYC-based singer/songwriter Jay Brannan has announced a U.S. summer tour in support of the release. The 27-date trek starts in Boston at the Brighton Music Hall on July 18th and wraps in his home city of New York at the Highline Ballroom on August 25th.
Listen to Jay's cover of Nicki Minaj's "Super Bass" live from Eddie's Attic:
Jay’s rabid online following combined with his penchant for connecting with live audiences has allowed him to tour the world multiple times in the past few years, often playing to sold-out rooms across the globe. Usually performing alone with guitar, each show is peppered with a healthy amount of commentary, often expounding on the observations, adventures, and frustrations of his daily life. Jay has also been know to throw in a few covers of his favorite songs, ranging from Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan to Adele and (as linked to above) Nicki Minaj.
For the follow-up to his 2008 critically acclaimed debut album goddamned, Jay teamed up with his dream producer, David Kahne (Regina Spektor, Paul McCartney, The Bangles, Lana Del Rey). Rob Me Blind maintains the signature qualities of a Jay Brannan album--brutal honesty, sharp wit and sparkling melodies--while showcasing Kahne's thoughtful production abilities.
Junkie XL (aka Tom Holkenborg) releases a new single EP for the track “Off The Dancefloor” featuring Isis Salam (Chinese Flash Mob, Thunderheist). “Off The Dancefloor” (OTDF) is from the Dutch-born musician, remixer and producer’s forthcoming studio album, set to drop in 2012. The EP features the album track, along with remixes from NT89, TRIPPPLENIPPPLES and DenizKoyu.
NT89 starts off the EP with his benchmark “future techno” stylings. Better known for their mindf*ck performance art (eggs, glitter, feather bombs, mud, liquid latex, spaghetti) Tokyo’s electropop band, TRIPPPLE NIPPPLES, renders OTDF anew with their stylized tweaks. MTV’s “EDM [Electronic Dance Music] Artist To Watch in 2012” Denis Koyu rounds out the EP with his signature progressive and electro house production.
In other news, Holkenborg collaborated with Hans Zimmer to remix the theme song to the The Academy Awards®. Holkenborg is the first Dutch recording producer involved in the awards. Titled “D_Generation,” the remix is one of six interpretations included on the collection, aptly named The 84th Academy Awards – Celebrate The Music. Other artists who contributed to the compilation are musician/producer/composer Pharrell Williams (The Neptunes), Grammy-winner Esperanza Spalding, percussionist/composer Sheila E., three-time Oscar winning Giorgio Moroder, and two-time Oscar winner A.R. Rahman.
This is not the first time Holkenborg and Zimmer have worked together. In 2010, Zimmer enlisted the talents of the Dutch-born producer/musician to remix the original score to the hit film, Inception.
