Director Aubrey Woodiwiss (from the award-winning agency, The Mill), deftly crafts an anxiety-inducing video that pumps with adrenaline, effectively delivering the song’s natural energy. The video is not for the light-hearted or any person with an insect phobia..but, well-worth checking out.

Whether penned in her native tongue of Mandarin or English (which she only learned to speak at age 16), Wanting’s piano-swept music has already won a following because her compositions—pop musings that plumb emotion—resonate universally. Without a label behind her, Wanting’s tunes have already sound-tracked the upcoming Chinese film Love in the Buff, appeared on a Mercedes Benz sampler, and amassed combined views of millions on Chinese YouTube.
Vancouver-based singer-songwriter Joshua Hyslop will debut his first full-length, Where The Mountain Meets The Valley on Nettwerk Records (May 15 digital, on shelves July 3).
In his early 20s, Hyslop composes beautiful melodies; showcasing his unforgettable vocal harmonies. Inspired by an array of artists - Damien Rice, Ryan Adams, Iron & Wine – Hyslop has developed his own kind of artfully-rendered Americana.
In anticipation of the album’s release, Hyslop partnered with Exclaim! to share “Do Not Let Me Go,” a song written in a quasi-conscious state – the words that surface when you think they are your last. After enduring two near-death experiences, the lyrics are wrenching, intimate and redemptive. At the end of 2011, Nettwerk Record and Old Crow Medicine Show learned that "Wagon Wheel," the break-out single from their 2004 debut album O.C.M.S., had been certified GOLD® by the RIAA®, surpassing 500,000 in track sales. Two of Nettwerk's co-founders, CEO Terry McBride and VP Internaional A&R/Publishing Mark Jowett, caught up with a few members of Old Crow Medicine Show while they were in Nashville this week to present the band with their Gold Plaques (photo above).
Originally sketched by Bob Dylan and later finished by Old Crow Medicine Show’s Ketch Secor, "Wagon Wheel" remains the band's most revered and top-selling single, now with over 715,000 in track sales.
Upon receiving the news initially, Secor reflected on the history of the track:
“Wagon Wheel” is a gold record 75 years in the making. Back in 1995, I first heard Bob Dylan sing that striking chorus on his unfinished 1972 studio outtake of “Rock Me Mama”. Being an audacious, banjo-picking teenager, I quickly rattled off three verses and rushed it out to coffeehouses and street corners, singing it to anyone who would listen. In 2003, seeking a copyright to the song, I learned that Dylan had credited it to Memphis songster Arthur “Big Boy” Crudup, who recorded the 1950’s boogie-woogie number “Rock Me Mama.” From there, I learned that Crudup attributed the song to Mississippi-turned-Chicagoan Big Bill Broonzy, who recorded it way back in the late 1920’s. So, from Big Bill to Big Boy to Bob and on down to me, “Wagon Wheel” has become a true American folksong, borrowed, half-stolen, and sung out far and wide. The rest, as they say, is history.
Canadian alt-pop duo Ash Koley--Ash Koley and Phil Deschambault--will release debut album Inventionsin the U.S. and the rest of the world on May 8, 2012. The album, which was previously only available in Canada, was produced by Deschambault and mixed by Grammy Award-winning mixer Tom Lord-Age. In anticipation of the release, the band has unveiled a brand new music video for album track “Mary The Inventor,” which premiered today on the American Eagle "Made To Last Blog" (here).
“For us, creating music is like building little inventions. Every song we write comes from an idea we then craft, construct and design into something we both fall in love with,” said Koley of the album title.
Inventions features 13 songs--nine original album tracks and four bonus tracks, including a cover of The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven.” In addition to the studio album release on May 8, the pair will release an acoustic album called Acoustic Inventions, comprised of acoustic versions of stand-out tracks from the studio album, as well as various tracks from the pair’s years of writing together.
Scottish quintet Admiral Fallow have unveiled their first official video for “The Paper Trench” from forthcoming sophomore album Tree Bursts In Snow, available digitally on May 22 and physically on June 26. The video, which premiered yesterday on PasteMagazine.com (here: http://bit.ly/JIHT62), was directed by Greg Davenport, filmed in Glasgow and Loch Lomond, and follows the touching journey of a tree man as he uproots himself from his dingy and polluted metropolis home and makes his way through the city to a greener and more peaceful dwelling.
