Pint Shot Riot

On March 7th 2011 LIFE IN THE BIG CITY RECORDS released the debut album by PINT SHOT RIOT entitled SPELL IT OUT. This is made up of twelve songs depicting life and love in the current times. The album has been produced by Peter Miles (The King Blues) and recorded at Peter’s residential studio in Holne Bridge, Ashburton, Devon, England over two sessions. The CD version comes with a live DVD filmed at one of the bands 1,000 capacity sellout hometown shows at the Kasbah Club, Coventry, England. There is also a 24 page booklet with all the lyrics and good quality pictures.

This release was just ahead of the band playing five gigs at SXSW in Austin Texas which were followed by another five gigs in New York all in March 2011. It was clearly obvious to all present that this ‘true grit’ rock ‘n’ roll was a winner with Americans who just seemed to welcome it with open arms!! A review on LIVE4EVER said it all

Back in December 2010 PSR were in New York for the first time where they played at Webster Hall and the Mercury Lounge, this was where they sealed the deal to be on at SXSW and got the taste for America!

SOMEBODY SAVE ME is the current UK single and will be followed in the summer by HAZY DAYS and then the bands considered masterpiece TWISTED SOUL.

The REDANKA remix of their previous single NOTHING FROM YOU has now been featured on the computer game NEED FOR SPEED HOT PURSUIT. This caused an instant reaction on the bands youtube page with thousand coming on board to view the remix video. It’s great how gamers become instant fans of the band! This remix also received rave reactions from alternative radio shows and in club-land.

In the spring of 2010 PSR recorded a new song called ‘VIVA ENGLAND’ in support of the England team and the HOMELESS WORLD CUP charity. More info on this is here If only the team had done better……….

The band have gradually become known worldwide due to their earlier single NOT THINKING STRAIGHT being featured on FIFA 10 and on NEED FOR SPEED NITRO both computer games selling millions around the world.

Another song ‘TREACLE TOWN’ was featured on a trailer for the game ARMY OF TWO where Salam and Rio come to London, again this has been watched by thousands on youtube.

All this is on top of the band already being featured in the game FIGHT NIGHT ROUND 4 where RICKY HATTON comes onto their first ever single ‘Punches Kicks Trenches & Swords’ which also gets featured on the juke box in THE SIMS 3.

Live wise the band have been busy headlining and selling out the 1,000 capacity Kasbah club in Coventry as well as supporting the likes of Band Of Skulls, Athlete, We Are Scientists, The Twang, Cage The Elephant, Glasvegas and The Enemy.

Evidence of the crowd reactions at their gigs is available here along with their videos: Front man Rocket has also acoustically supported Pete Doherty when he came to Coventry for one of his solo shows.

The bands singles from 2009 ‘COME BACK TO ME’ and ‘NOT THINKING STRAIGHT’ were played extensively by ZANE LOWE on BBC Radio One and also on UK alternative radio, the videos were playlisted on NME TV.

The bands earlier singles ‘Start Digging’ charted at No.3 in the UK Indie Chart behind Dizzee Rascal and The Last Shadow Puppets! The follow up ‘Holes’ peaked at No.6 in the UK Indie Chart. Both of these along with the first single and three acoustic tracks are available on the Mini album entitled ROUND ONE.

The PINT SHOT RIOT name comes from mobile phone predictive text, so text PINT and you’ll see! Who’d have thought mobile phone companies knew so much about the actions of youth!

You can also grab a free download of another album track ‘SIX YEARS, THREE WEEKS’ from the bands website All this being part of the plan to get as many songs out there as possible!

The band are:

Rocket – lead vocals and guitar
Rob – lead guitar and backing vocals
Baby Dave – bass and roll-ups
Mini Rocket – drums and backing vocals

The beginning……

The names tell it all: Rocket, so called because aged 18 he worked at the infamous Rocket pub where various football hooligan firms spilled into upon arriving at Coventry Railway station. Mini Rocket, simply because he’s slightly less (in) famous than his elder cousin. Baby Dave, well, maybe just because he’s shorter than the rest of them, and Rob, because that's his name.

So how did they get together: Rocket bought a guitar and began to learn to play. Influenced by Brit Pop during his early years he wanted to write his own songs. He and cousin Mini Rocket had always been thick as thieves, hence Mini diving in at the deep end and learning the drums so they could make this happen together.

Songs were written but were no good without a band. A small studio in Coventry called J10 had loads of musicians through the doors and seemed a perfect place to ask if anyone knew of a bassist. Baby Dave emerged, committed 100% and took everything to a new level. The three members were perfect in their roles.

Now the search was on to find a lead guitar player to complete the band and for the second time a studio would come to the rescue. There was talk of a kid called Rob who was proper class on guitar, he had worked at a studio in Birmingham where Rocket, Mini and Dave had demo'd some early recordings.

Rob lived in Redditch where he had his own little make shift studio at his folks house. After a quick phone call with Rocket they decided to have a jam.

This rehearsal in Jan 2007 was where everything clicked into place and PINT SHOT RIOT became what they are today.

Influenced by the spiky rhythms and even spikier lyrics of The Clash, the working class rock ‘n’ roll attitude of Oasis and the melodies and harmonies of The Kinks. Pint Shot Riot’s songs talk not of despair but of hope, not of everyday mundane life but of dreams, not of isolation but of strength in union. It’s an ambition. A promise.

Praise for their early recordings soon appeared - BBC Radio One Steve Lamacq ‘In New Music We Trust’ Demo Of the Week (April ‘07), BBC 6 Music Unsigned Band Of the Week (May ’07), a slot on the BBC Introducing Stage at Glastonbury (June ’07), BBC Radio One’s Huw Stephens “Best New Band In the UK” (July ’07)

In October 2007 the band digitally released their debut single ‘Punches Kicks Trenches and Swords’ on their own label ‘LIFE IN THE BIG CITY RECORDS’. Huw Stephens played it on Radio One and The Kaiser Chiefs gave the single 10/10 on 6 Music’s Round Table Show hosted by Steve Lamacq.

Kerrang! xfm Scotland and Juice radio stations also gave the single some spins.

Q Magazine said, “It seems The Enemy aren’t the only band fizzling with youthful rage”

Clash Magazine said, “PINT SHOT RIOT are extolling the virtues of ambition and chasing dreams, and we’re listening!
