Giovanni produces, writes and records his own music. Known as a style virtuoso, he’s had the New York Times compare his vision to the late, great, Alexander McQueen.
In 2006, the Harlem-based, native New Yorker burst onto the performance art scene with his neo-vaudevillian troupe, The Harlem James Gang. Giovanni debuted his singing, dancing and magic creation at NYC hotspot, The Box. Their success headlining the Box lead to touring with John Legend, performing private shows for Madonna, and inspiring top fashion designers with their unbridled, one-of-a-kind presentation.
Today, Giovanni continues to prove that his desires and capabilities as a singer/songwriter are limitless. His new solo project is a window into the obstacles he has overcome as a mixed race, son of a prostitute. The complexity of his upbringing is represented by the vast sonic palette which ranges from 50’s surf rock, gut bucket soul, to the origins of hip hop.
Musical legends Sam Cooke, Jimi Hendrix and Otis Redding have inspired his sound, while the work of iconic film stars like James Dean, Marlon Brando and Montgomery Clift have influenced his strong, fearless yet vulnerable demeanor both in person and on stage.
Giovanni has coined his style “indie vintage soul” to encompass his genre-bending sound on his forthcoming debut LP, Ponyboy’s Gold.
